Series Two: Policy & Compliance || Part One: Updating Policies

Policies and procedures act as a course of action or how an event is to be managed by an organisation.

As per the regulations, there are mandatory policies a service is required to have, as well as policies specific to their context.

In part one of our series on policy and compliance we are going to focus on policy updates.

Policy review and development are crucial for ensuring policies remain relevant and work for your service.

So how does your service consistently implement its policies?  How can you keep your policy manual up to date?

Let’s Reflect!!

Policy Update Calendar

We understand with the amount of work expected of Directors & Coordinators it can be difficult to ensure policies are updated frequently. We recommend starting a policy update calendar. Rather than updating all policies at once, why not spread them out over the year.

  • Update 2 or 3 policies per month
  • Use these slow changes to educate your staff on these policies. Share the updates with your educators via a staff newsletter, email or meeting
  • Update your families on the changes as well via a newsletter, social media or your website!
  • This is a great way to ensure everyone is communicated with throughout the process.

Do you have any other suggestions on how to stay updated on industry changes to ensure your policies are current and relevant? Share with us!

Acknowledgement of Country

At Firefly HR, we acknowledge the traditional owners of the land we work & connect with you from today. As a base, Firefly HR connects from the land of the Garigal or Caregal people, and would like to acknowledge all 29 clan groups of the Eora Nation.

At Firefly HR, we connect – although online, and meet by story sharing, learning, taking on non verbal queues, deconstruct and reconstruct information, and move in non linear directions at times. We use symbols without realising, and link with our own land and community.

This is all interconnected. We are utilising Aboriginal pedagogy with these processes and in our daily work.

We acknowledge the land that we are on today has been the core of all spirituality, language, knowledge, and sacred sites. This knowledge is what us and others need to embrace to ensure a future for our children and our children’s children.

We need to hear, respectfully, and listen.

As a guiding principle to the National Quality Framework that Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are valued, we are working on building the foundations here and believe a strong, meaningful acknowledgement of country is important.
